What to expect when you speak to a deceased loved one
People always watch TV and base their expectations on what they see. Yes, it is wonderful to have famous mediums showcasing their work, it gives way for mediums like myself. However, it also gives people the misconception that things will go the same way as it does on the show.
People always watch TV and base their expectations on what they see.
So here are some basic guidelines to follow before you book a session with a medium.
Will the spirit show up?
First and foremost, the deceased spirit may or may not come. They are not obligated to do anything they don’t want to do. As much as we have free will so do they. If they don’t feel like coming, guess what? They won’t come.
I’m not sure how other mediums do it, but I always ask the higher spirits (angels) if the spirit would like to join the session. They give straight answers for it: yes or no.
Second, the medium will usually ask for something that is from or of the spirit (i.e. material possession, name, birthday, picture, and/or anything else that represents them). This gives mediums the energy needed to sense the spirit and communicate with them.
Third, the deceased spirit will still act very human. If they lack energy or do not have the gift to communicate through words, then they will present themselves through a different channel (acting out their personality, share visions, share feelings, show themselves, etc.).
Fourth, the spirit can show up as they died or as they lived. Meaning, they will choose how to present themselves to the reader and to the seeker (you). Every spirit session is unique, so rarely is any the same.
Will I get closure?
If God wills it then perhaps you will get some closure, but I’ve seen both sides of the coin. Sometimes it opens old wounds for the seeker so they can start healing; and sometimes it closes old wounds and provides comfort for the seeker. I will say this: as much as you want closure, so does the deceased.
I will say this: as much as you want closure, so does the deceased.
And if you’ve had a lot of guilt, regret, or anger towards the spirit and expect an apology – guess what? You might not even get it. The spirits will still act as they did when they were alive. I repeat: they will still act the same as when they were alive.
The spirits will still act as they did when they were alive.
So if they were stubborn and unemotional alive, then they will be even on the other side. You should never expect spirits to bend to your will just because you want to talk to them.
What should I expect then?
You should expect that the medium has no control over what happens. Whatever the spirit wants to say or do, the medium should be upfront and honest about it.
In my experiences, there are a lot of times when the spirits don’t even have a message to deliver, they’ll just sit there and be present. Then there are times where the spirits have a ton of things to say and it’ll be non-stop sharing. It really depends.
How much should I pay for a medium session?
That really depends on the medium. I charge $80 - $116 because it’s an hour-long session that requires a lot of energy exchange and added protection and cleansing right after.
And why do mediums have to charge for it, you ask?
Easy. It’s our job and most mediums make it their life. It’s not easy to communicate with the dead and most of us have daily and nightly routines to keep our channels pure and open. We honestly aren’t like normal people.
We must sacrifice a lot of things in order to keep up with the other side. God has a plan for each and every reader, and living up to those expectations requires a lot of internal and external energy. Plus, can you talk to the dead? Probably not.
Consider it our specialty and number one priority to connect the living with the dead.
How do I know if a medium is real or not?
That’s an awesome question, and you are not wrong for being skeptical. Everyone is skeptical until they’ve had a session.
Check/research their content, their website, social media, and reviews.
See if their content resonates with you. If you get a bad feeling about this person, then don’t do it. If you hesitate, then don’t do it. You have to feel comfortable and trust me, there is a right time for everything. Never rush a session just because.

Try different mediums if possible
I would suggest booking a medium at a more affordable price, then booking a medium at a more expensive price (up to you). There can be times where you didn’t get what you wanted from a session, so it’s okay to book with someone else.
Don’t let them rush you
If they’re rushing you into a session, then don’t do it. Mediums understand that everything happens when it’s supposed to. Take your time and do make the right decision based on your findings.
I’ve booked a session, now what?
So if you didn’t do all of the things above, don’t panic! Just go along for the session and don’t expect anything to be in your control. Also, make sure that the medium speaks first and then you can go from there. Yes, the medium will ask you questions to validate that they are speaking with the right spirit.

If you go into a session thinking that the medium will give you the sun, moon, and stars, then you will be greatly disappointed. If the spirit has anything to say to you, then they will. Look, we aren’t you and we don’t know you or the spirit personally. We are just messengers and we pass whatever it is they tell us. That’s our job, nothing more nothing less.

You just have to trust in God. Foreals. Trust in God and let him know your intentions.
